Five candidates are contesting this year’s MUSIGA presidential election which will be held on August 18 in Tamale in the Northern Region

The four candidates are Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Obour, Nana Tuffour and Willi Roi.

Obour, who has been in the music business for over a decade, with six albums to his credit, has been working as the MUSIGA Youth Organiser under the current MUSIGA President, Diana Hopeson, since 1998.

According to Obour, when voted into office, he would work tirelessly to improve the living standards of members and musicians in general, whilst ensuring good industry practices and directly influencing policies of the industry that would impact the national economy.

“I have plans to ensure that in the short to long run, musicians are recognized and respected when in Ghana and beyond. CLIMATE CHANGE Unites Musicians

Youth and children, as the next generations, have the right to a clean future – they do not wish to inherit a toxic, radioactive, dirty and carbon-driven world. We demand a clear definition of sustainable energy and time-bound targets for the implementation of a sustainable energy policy that will free us from respiratory ailments, air pollution, climate change and a radioactive legacy. We stand in solidarity with vulnerable communities, including low-income and marginalized groups, indigenous populations and those living in geographically vulnerable areas, which bear and suffer a disproportionate share of the impact of climate change.” Ghana is no different from such community.

Last year, a conference was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, to deliberate and collectively fight against climate change dubbed “COP 15 Climate Change Conference”, Bice Osei Kuffour known as Obour by popular approbation was selected by British Council-Ghana as a Climate Change Icon. The British Council sponsored him to travel to Denmark to attend the conference to have an insight on what Climate Change was, its adverse effects and the supposed positive activities that will reduce its effects.

“I’VE ALWAYS BEEN A FOOTBALL FAN” OBOUR

Throughout the World Cup festivity, the “Konkotibaa” and “The Game” hitmaker, Obour has always been present at either Silverbird Cinema or Citizen Kofi during any Ghana game. “It is not just out of patriotism that I watch the games but also because I have always been a football fan,” he explains, “I can say after music, football is the thing I’m most passionate about, every school I have ever attended, of course except Legon I was a member of the school team and I played regularly.”

The artiste who recently signed for the “FIFA 1 Goal Project” in Tamale still plays football with a professional team every Saturday at the Tema TDC Park. “Playing football to me is just not a fun activity but also a way of life. I keep fit and I keep in touch with friends through it.”

Obour would put his bet on Argentina or Ghana as the most likely country to win the world cup. The reason being that, “Both countries play witty and exciting football. They are hard to beat and their players have an image that scares the opponent even before the game starts. Lionel Messi and Asamoah Gyan from both teams respectively have been tipped by FIFA for the crown of best which means they are a danger to play against.”

The challenges posed by Changes in our Climate and its devastating effects has therefore compelled Obour, the social responsibity ambassador to undertake a Climate Change Project to educate the public on the effects of Climate Change and how our practices can limit its occurrence.
